Guard Shift Tracker (“the Extension”) is a Chrome browser extension that lets security guards record shift check-ins and check-outs with GPS location capture. This policy explains what data the Extension handles and where it goes.
Data the Extension collects
- Identity data you enter: guard name, guard ID, and assigned site name — entered by you on the settings page.
- Location data: GPS latitude, longitude, and accuracy radius, captured only at the moment you press Check In or Check Out. The Extension does not track your location continuously or in the background.
- Shift records: check-in/check-out timestamps, duration, geofence status, and the reverse-geocoded street address of each check-in/out point.
Where the data is stored
All records are stored locally on your own device using Chrome’s extension storage (chrome.storage.local). Nothing is stored on our servers. You can delete all history at any time with the “Clear” button in the popup, or by removing the Extension.
When data leaves your device
- Reverse geocoding: at check-in/check-out, your coordinates are sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service (nominatim.org) solely to convert them into a readable address. No name, ID, or other identifying data is included in that request. Nominatim’s own privacy policy applies to that request.
- Optional API sync: if you (or your employer) configure a webhook URL on the settings page, each completed shift record (name, ID, site, times, locations) is sent to that URL. This is off by default, fully controlled by the URL you enter, and you grant the permission for that specific site when saving it. The receiving server’s privacy practices are the responsibility of whoever operates it.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or profiling.
- We do not collect browsing history, keystrokes, or any data from websites you visit.
- We do not transfer data for purposes unrelated to shift time-keeping.
Permissions used
geolocation— capture GPS position at check-in/check-out.storage— save settings and shift history on your device.- Access to
nominatim.openstreetmap.org— reverse geocoding. - Optional site access — only requested for the specific webhook URL you configure.
Data retention
Records remain on your device until you delete them. Uninstalling the Extension permanently removes all locally stored data.
